Seville Fair

Seville Fair

The Seville Spring Fair, "Feria de abril de Sevilla", is held 2 weeks after the Easter Holy Week, "Semana Santa". It starts on a Monday at midnight and ends with a fireworks display the following Sunday.

The Fair dates back to 1847 when it was originally organized as a livestock fair, but has evolved into one of Spain's most popular fiestas. At midday there is a parade of horse riders and carriages by Seville's leading citizens which then make their way to the bullring.

Hundreds of "Casetas" (individual decorated marquee tents) are temporarily built on the fairground in which the crowds party and dance all night. Each Caseta has an individual bar where people drink sherry 'Jerez' or manzanilla wine, have tapas, and dance "Sevillanas". Many women wear traditional Sevillanas dresses.
